Warrants, 1877-1949.

Record group RG 84-51 consists of warrants (1877-1949), the first of the documents, warrants of agents, are from papers made out by the governor of Michigan on behalf of officers from other states. The record identifies the name of the agent and the state he represents; the name of the criminal who has fled to Michigan; and the violation of which he is guilty. The language of the document then instructs all "sheriffs, constables, and other civil officers of the State of Michigan" to assist the agent in apprehending the criminal and assisting the agent in returning him to the jurisdiction in which the offense was committed. The second item, warrants of sheriffs, authorize such officers to arrest a citizen of another state who has fled to Michigan to escape prosecution. This record gives the name of the criminal; type of offense; when and where violation occurred; and name of agent to whom the fugitive should be delivered.
